The Longhorns got a great relief outing from Tanner Witt but were unable to rally for the win.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 19 Texas Baseball dropped the series finale to BYU, 5-4, on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns are back in action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Texas held a 4-1 lead through five innings before BYU put up five runs in the top of the sixth and held on for the win.

Douglas Hodo III launched the Longhorns into the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to left-center. The solo shot was his first homer of the season.

Silas Ardoin made it 2-0 in the fourth with an RBI single through the left side to drive in Zach Zubia from second base. Cam Williams smashed a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the Texas lead to 4-1.

Texas starter Tristan Stevens pitched 5 1/3 innings and was charged for four runs on six hits. Stevens had allowed just one run through five but allowed three straight singles to start the sixth before being relieved. The relief combo of Caden Noah and Drew Shifflet were unable to limit the damage.

Tanner Witt came out of the bullpen to get the Longhorns out of the jam in the sixth and went on to pitch 3 1/3 perfect innings with five strikeouts. He retired all 10 batters he faced.

Ardoin gave the Longhorns a chance in the bottom of the ninth, starting the inning with a double to right-center but unfortunately the next three Longhorns were retired in order.
