Travis Vick (-4) and Pierceson Coody (-2) occupy the top five on the leaderboard in Indiana.
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The No. 6 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 6-under 282 on Monday to grab a 3-stroke lead after the first day of the NCAA Noblesville Regional at The Sagamore Club. Travis Vick equaled his season-best round, firing a 4-under-par 68 to stand alone in first place at the close of the opening round of play.
Pierceson Coody is the next lowest Longhorn, finishing his round in a tie for fourth with a 2-under 70. Cole Hammer is just outside the top-10, shooting a 1-under 71 to close out his round tied for 11th place.
Vick opened the regional with birdies on the first two holes and went on to card five in the round. The sophomore finished with birdies on the seventh, eighth and 13th holes, while also recording a birdie on the 14th hole.
Coody was just as impressive, matching Vick with five birdies. After opening play with a bogey on the first hole, Coody birdied the second hole then went par or better over the next 12 frames, collecting birdies on the fifth, seventh, 12th and 13th holes. After back-to-back bogies on the 15th and 16th holes, he closed out the round making par on the final two holes.
Hammer was in the mix with the leaders throughout the day, bouncing back from a bogey on the first hole to shoot par or better over the next 13 holes, including three consecutive birdies to close out the front nine. The junior also birdied the fifth and 12th holes while collecting only three bogies in the round.
Parker Coody is tied for 26th, shooting a 1-over 73 highlighted by four birdies to only three bogies and one double bogey.
Rounding out the Longhorns' lineup, Mason Nome tied for 58th after a 5-over round of 77 with four birdies.
Texas is scheduled to tee off with No. 7 North Carolina and No. 23 North Florida at 7 a.m. CT on Tuesday. Live results will be available throughout the second round of the NCAA Noblesville Regional on Golfstat.com.
