No. 3 Baseball slams No. 11 Texas Tech in series finale, 11-3

Pete Hansen allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings of relief to earn his fifth win of the season.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Baseball blasted No. 11 Texas Tech, 11-3, in the series finale at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon. Pete Hansen earned the win in relief and Douglas Hodo III hit a grand slam as Texas improved to 35-11 on the season and 13-5 in Big 12 Conference play.
Hansen (5-1) was phenomenal on the hill, earning his fifth win of the season after entering in the first inning with the bases loaded and nobody out. The left-hander allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings, surrendering seven hits and striking out seven batters.
Texas Tech (30-11, 10-8) struck early, opening the game with back-to-back singles and two walks to bring in a run without recording an out. Hansen come in out of the bullpen and quickly got out of the jam, limiting the damage with a groundball double play to third and a fly out to center to close out the inning.
A pair of doubles in the Red Raider second brought another run across, extending their lead to 2-0.
Texas answered with a four-spot in their half of the second to take a 4-2 lead. Ivan Melendez got the Longhorns on the board with a leadoff triple to right on a ball the outfielder lost in the sun and came in to score after a throwing error on the play.
Cam Williams then drew a four-pitch walk, Silas Ardoin singled and Hodo walked to load the bases. Trey Faltine stepped in with one out and crushed a ball off the wall in right-center for a stand-up double that scored two runs. Mike Antico followed with a sacrifice fly to left that brought home Eric Kennedy, who had reached on a fielder's choice.
The Longhorns added another run in the fourth to make it 5-2 after Hodo hit a one-out single to left and came all the way around to score after a Kennedy sacrifice bunt and back-to-back wild pitches.
In the sixth, Williams led off with a sharp base hit off the shortstop and Ardoin followed with a single to center. A throwing error on a Hodo sacrifice bunt allowed Williams to score and Ardoin to advance to third, then Faltine drove in Ardoin with a sacrifice fly to center to give Texas a 7-2 lead.
Texas added four more runs with Hodo's slam in the seventh to extend the lead to 11-2. Zach Zubia opened the frame with a walk, then Ivan Melendez was hit by a pitch. Ardoin drew a one-out walk to load the bases for Hodo, who drove a ball over the wall in left-center for the Longhorns' first grand slam of the season.
Hodo and Ardoin each had two hits and scored three runs, while Faltine went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
Aaron Nixon pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit with one strike out.
Texas will be back in action at UFCU Disch-Falk Field against Texas State on Tuesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m.
