Track and Field holds in USTFCCCA national rankings

The Longhorns are slotted at No. 4 in the women’s standings and No. 6 on the men’s side this week.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Track and Field program climbed in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index this week, with the UT women holding at No. 4 and the men at No. 6. Both programs have been ranked in the top 10 throughout the spring, with the women occupying a top-five spot for the duration of the outdoor season to date.
The Texas women currently feature 26 NCAA Regional-qualifying marks after the decision was made to expand the field back to a full 48 qualifiers last week. Nine of the Longhorns' qualifying marks currently rank in the top-10 nationally, led by a pair of top-two marks from Tara Davis in the long jump (No. 1) and the 100-meter hurdles (No. 2). Davis claimed the NCAA lead in the long jump with a collegiate-record effort at the Texas Relays back in March, and then moved to No. 2 in the hurdles with a fast time at the LSU Alumni Gold last month. This past weekend, Kynnedy Flannel (200m, No. 3), Chanel Brissett (100mH, No. 4) and Rhasidat Adeleke (200m, No. 16) all moved up into the top-20 nationally in their respective events with strong performances at the Texas Invitational.
On the men's side, UT's lineup currently features 16 NCAA Regional-qualifying marks after the decision was made to expand the field back a to full 48 qualifiers last week. Seven of those marks currently rank in the top-10, led by O'Brien Wasome's national-leading mark in the triple jump that he has held since March 6 at the Longhorn Invitational. Jonathan Jones (400m, No. 13), Micaiah Harris (200m, No. 14) and Warren Miller (PV, No. 18) all climbed into the top-20 nationally this past weekend with their performances at the Texas Invitational.
The Longhorns are scheduled to compete in the Aggie Invitational this weekend in College Station, Texas to close out their 2021 regular season. Following this weekend's meet, Texas turns its full attention toward postseason action, which begins with the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Manhattan, Kan. next weekend.
