No. 19 Men's Golf's Maas named to Fred Haskins Award final fall watch list

Freshman Christiaan Maas is one of 20 players named to list for nation’s top collegiate men’s golfer.
COLUMBUS, Georgia — University of Texas Men's Golf freshman Christiaan Maas has been named to the final fall watch list for the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, the Haskins Foundation announced Monday. Maas is one of 20 players named to the final fall list for the annual award which honors the top men's collegiate golfer.
Maas has played in each of UT's first fall tournaments and leads the team with a 70.0 stroke average. The No. 33 player in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings (Oct. 19), he posted a season-best individual finish with a tie for third place at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 3-4) at 6-under-par 204 (70-67-67). Maas has shot par or better in seven of his nine stroke-play rounds this fall, including three rounds in the 60s.
Maas placed 12th at The Stephens Cup (Oct. 10-12) at 4-under-par 212 (69-71-72) and tied for 20th in his collegiate debut at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational (Sept. 16-18) at 4-over-par 214 (72-72-70). He also registered a 3-2 individual record at the Big 12 Match Play Championship (Oct. 17-19).
Celebrating its 53rd year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournament titles around the world. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's and select golf media. Golf Channel and Golfweek are media partners for the Fred Haskins Award.
Stifel, one of the nation's leading wealth management and investment banking firms, serves as the presenting sponsor of both the ANNIKA and Haskins Awards, recognizing annually the most outstanding NCAA Division I female and male college golfers. Maas and the Longhorns are on the course later today in the stroke-play portion of the prestigious East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Ga. The tournament features 18-hole stroke play on Monday, Oct. 24 followed by two rounds of match play on Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 26. Golf Channel will provide live coverage on all three days of competition from 2-5 p.m. Central.
