No. 5 Men’s Golf finishes runner-up at The Williams Cup

Bennett places second in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 6-under 210.
WILMINGTON, N.C. — The No. 5 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 2-over 290 on Tuesday to finish in second place at The Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club. Sophomore Daniel Bennett posted a 1-under 71 in his final round to place second in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 6-under 210 (68-71-71).
In Tuesday's final round, Texas counted scores from Bennett (1-under 71), senior Tommy Morrison (1-under 71), senior Christiaan Maas (2-over 74) and graduate Matt Comegys (2-over 74) to post a team round of 2-over 290.
No. 14 Florida claimed the team title with a three-round total of 15-under 849 (276-276-297). The Longhorns placed second at 3-under 861 (284-287-290), while No. 9 and tourney host North Carolina and Louisville tied for third at 9-over 873. Florida and Texas were the only two teams in the field to finish under-par over the 54-hole event. The 15-team field featured six squads in the top 25 of the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Oct. 10).
Notre Dame's Nate Stevens earned individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 7-under 209 (70-67-72). Bennett finished one stroke behind Stevens at 6-under 210 in solo second place, while Florida teammates Luke Poulter (68-71-72) and Zack Swanwick (69-68-74) tied for third at 5-under 211. This marked the second time this fall and fourth time in his collegiate career that Bennett has finished either second or tied for second on the individual leaderboard.
Competing as an individual, senior Luke Potter posted a season-best sixth-place finish with a three-round score of 3-under 213 (71-70-72). Morrison tied for seventh at 1-under 215 (73-71-71). Only nine of the 81 individual players in the field finished with a score of under-par over the 54-hole event.
This marked UT's final tournament of the Fall 2025 season. The Longhorns will tee it up in the spring at the Arizona N.I.T. on Jan. 26-27 in Tucson, Ariz.
The Lineup
- Sophomore Daniel Bennett carded a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to finish in solo second in the individual standings with a 54-hole score of 6-under 210 (68-71-71). This marked the second time this fall and fourth time in his collegiate career that Bennett has finished either second or tied for second. He previously tied for second at this year's season-opening Sahalee Players Championship (Sept. 6-7), tied for second at the 2025 Valspar Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 24-25) and tied for second at the 2025 Southwestern Invitational (Jan. 27-29). Bennett was 1-over through his opening 11 holes in his final round before making birdies on holes 12 and 18 to close out his 1-under 71.
- Competing as an individual, Luke Potter fired an even-par 72 in his final round and placed sixth overall with a three-round total of 3-under 213 (71-70-72). This marked a season-best finish for Potter, topping his tie for 13th at the season-opening Sahalee Players Championship (Sept. 6-7). Starting on hole 10, he tallied a pair of birdies (holes 5 and 6) against two bogeys on Tuesday.
- Senior Tommy Morrison recorded a 1-under 71 on Tuesday and tied for seventh with a 54-hole score of 1-under 215 (73-71-71). He was 2-over at the turn but rallied to post birdies on 12, 13 and 15 to climb to 1-under. Morrison made a bogey on 17 to drop to even-par before closing out his round with a birdie on 18 to finish at 1-under.
- Graduate Matt Comegys registered a 2-over 74 in his final round and tied for 12th with a three-round total of 1-over 217 (70-73-74). Comegys tallied five birdies (holes 3, 7, 10, 11 and 13) on Tuesday.
- Senior Christiaan Maas carded a 2-over 74 on Tuesday and tied for 43rd with a 54-hole score of 8-over 224 (75-75-74). Maas recorded five birdies (holes 3, 4, 6, 10 and 12) in his final round.
- Sophomore Eduardo Derbez Torres posted a 7-over 79 in his final round and tied for 43rd with a three-round total of 8-over 224 (73-72-79).
