No. 1 Baseball sweeps Alabama

Tanner Witt struck out a career-high nine batters to lead the Longhorns to a 6-1 win.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas Baseball completed the sweep of Alabama with a 6-1 win on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns improved to 8-0 on the season with the win.
Tanner Witt pitched six stellar innings with a career-high nine to earn his second win of the season. Witt walked one, allowed four hits, and just one earned run.
Murphy Stehly had a three-hit day, finishing 3-for-5 with one triple and one RBI. Trey Faltine went 1-for-4 with a two-run single to left field to drive in the game-winning runs.
Texas was the first to get on the board in the fourth when Austin Todd hit a bases-loaded RBI groundout to score Ivan Melendez.
Alabama tied the game with a one-out solo home run in the top of the fifth inning, snapping a streak of 26 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings by Texas pitching. The Longhorns had gone 41 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
With bases loaded again in the sixth, Faltine broke up the tie with a single to score Silas Ardoin and Todd. Dylan Campbell followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Longhorns added to the lead in the eighth inning, scoring a run on a balk and another on an RBI triple by Stehly to make the score 6-1.
Lucas Gordon pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit and striking out a batter. Aaron Nixon came in relief for the ninth inning to close out the game with a pair of strikeouts.
The Longhorns will hit the road next week, taking on Sam Houston on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Huntsville before heading to Minute Maid Park for the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic.
