Vick posts career-best second-place individual finish to lead Longhorns to 15th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship.
NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 6 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 4-under-par 284 on Wednesday to finish in fourth place in the team standings at the NCAA Norman Regional at Jimmie Austin Golf Club. With their top-five team finish at the NCAA Regional, the Longhorns advance to the NCAA Championship on May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Norman Regional featured 13 teams and 10 individual players. The low five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams advance to the NCAA Championship.
Texas extended its nation's-longest current streak of consecutive Division I Men's NCAA Golf Championship appearances to 15, dating back to the 2007 season. Illinois had its streak of 13-straight NCAA Championship trips snapped by missing the cut at the New Haven Regional, and Oklahoma moved into second on the active streak list with 11.
Junior Travis Vick concluded his breakout performance at the Norman Regional with a career-best second-place finish in the individual standings, firing a 54-hole score of 10-under-par 206 (67-67-72). Vick's previous top showing was a tie for second in the stroke-play portion of the East Lake Cup on Oct. 28-30, 2019 during his freshman season.
Regional host and top-ranked Oklahoma won the team title with a three-round score of 26-under-par 838 (277-285-276). Auburn placed second at 16-under-par 848 (280-276-292), followed by Ole Miss at 15-under-par 849 (287-281-281) and Texas at 12-under-par 852 (282-286-284). The Longhorns finished 14 strokes safely above the team cut line, as South Carolina placed sixth at 2-over-par 866 (278-295-293).
In addition to Vick's effort, Texas was aided on Wednesday by a pair of 2-under-par 70 efforts from seniors Parker Coody and Pierceson Coody and an even-par 72 by junior Mason Nome.
