ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 19 Texas Baseball was unable to overcome a big third inning in an 8-1 loss to Oklahoma in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship game on Sunday at Globe Life Field.
The Longhorns (42-19) have been selected as one of 16 NCAA Regional host sites, starting Friday, June 3. The Longhorns are set as the No. 1 seed in the Austin Regional with the remainder of the field to be announced on Monday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
Ivan Melendez broke the program record with his 29th home run of the season, launching an opposite field solo shot in the top of the first inning to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Longhorns that would be only offense in the game.
Oklahoma jumped in front with a big third inning, scoring eight runs on five hits and three walks.
Tristan Stevens gave the Longhorns three innings of relief, allowing just one run on one hit and striking out three batters. For the tournament, Stevens pitched 6 2/3 innings of relief and allowed just two runs. He recorded two saves and struck out 10 batters.
Coy Cobb pitched two scoreless innings and Lebarron Johnson added one scoreless inning of relief.
Skyler Messinger, Douglas Hodo III and Pete Hansen were all named to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team.
