Baseball beats Houston Baptist 13-3

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball blasted Houston Baptist, 13-3, in seven innings on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns (32-16) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Zane Morehouse started and pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. He improved to 2-0 as the designated starter.
Ivan Melendez went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored. Ace Whitehead made his first career start and went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Murphy Stehly was 2-for4 with a two-run homer in the first inning.
Texas jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning after Douglas Hodo III and Whitehead started the game with bunt singles. Melendez then hammered a two-run double to start the scoring. Stehly quickly followed with a two-run home run to left field to make it 4-0.
The Huskies got on the board with two runs in the third inning, using three free passes and a pair of singles to get on the board. Tristan Stevens came out of the bullpen to get out of a bases loaded jam.
HBU added another run in the top of the fourth inning with two more free passes to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Longhorns scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 6-3. Melendez and Stehly both singled to start the inning before Ardoin drove in the run with a fielder's choice groundout. After a walk loaded the bases, Faltine drove in another run with a walk.
Texas batted around and scored seven runs in the fifth to expand the lead out to 13-3.
Marcus Olivarez, Travis Sthele and Lebarron Johnson all pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
