ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Baseball dropped the finale of the College Baseball Showdown, 12-2, to Vanderbilt on Sunday at Globe Life Field.
The Longhorns (0-3) will return to Austin to host A&M-Corpus Christi for the home opener at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The game was decided relatively early, as Vanderbilt took advantage of four Longhorn errors in the top of the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.
Texas got on the board with one run in the third inning to trim the lead to 8-1 when Porter Brown drove in a run with an RBI groundout. The Commodores got the run back in the fifth inning to make it 9-1.
Eric Kennedy hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning to make the score 9-2.
Vanderbilt tacked on three more runs in the sixth to make the score 12-2.
Chase Lummus made his Longhorn debut, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. David Shaw pitched the final frame, a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
