Baseball drops series at Cal State Fullerton in extra innings

The Longhorns will return home for a 14-game homestand at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

FULLERTON, Calif. – Texas Baseball dropped the series finale to Cal State Fullerton, 5-4, in 11 innings on Sunday at Goodwin Field

The Longhorns (4-7) scored two runs in the ninth to send the game into extra-innings before eventually falling in the 11^th inning.

Cal State Fullerton took an early 3-0 lead, scoring in the bottom of the first inning on three walks and two singles off of Travis Sthele.

Sthele went on to pitch 4.2 innings and allowed just the three runs on four hits and struck out five.

Eric Kennedy got the Longhorns on the board in the fifth inning with a solo home run to right field, trimming the Titans lead to 3-1. Kennedy went 4-for-6 in the game with one run scored and one RBI.

Both teams traded scoreless frames until the ninth, when Jack O'Dowd blasted a two-run home run to right field to tie the game 3-3 and send it into extra innings.

Peyton Powell gave the Longhorns their first lead of the day in the top of the 10^th inning with an RBI double to right field, driving in pinch-runner Cade O'Hara.

Cal State Fullerton came back in the bottom of the 10^th to tie the game up, 4-4, on a pair of singles.

The Longhorns had the bases loaded in the top of the 11^th but were unable to score. The Titans then scratched out a run in the bottom of the 11^th to win the game.

Texas returns home to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for a 14-game homestand, starting against Sam Houston on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
