Baseball beats Texas Southern, 18-3

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball weathered a one-hour delay and pounded out a season-high 18 hits and ten doubles to roll to an 18-3 win over Texas Southern on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (28-15, 8-7) will turn their attention back to Big 12 Conference play, to take on TCU in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Lupton Stadium.
DJ Burke had the designated start and pitched two full innings with two strikeouts and one hit allowed, earning his first career win.
Dylan Campbell extended his hitting streak to 20 straight games with a hit and went 2-for-2.
Peyton Powell went 3-for-4 with a new career high of three doubles and had two RBI. Jared Thomas had a single, double and a homerun, going 3-for-3 at the plate.
The Longhorns took the 2-0 lead early in the bottom of the first with a walk, hit batter, an RBI double by Peyton and an RBI sacrifice fly by Garret Guillemette.
In the bottom of the second, Tanner Carlson hit an RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly from Campbell and a single to left from Guillemette to make the score 5-0.
After a one-hour and four-minute rain delay in the middle of the third inning, play resumed at 8:32 p.m. Texas added nine runs on eight hits to their score to make it 14-0 on a two-run homer to right by Thomas, four straight doubles by Campbell, Eric Kennedy, Powell and Guillemette, followed by a three-run homer by Mitchell Daly.
Texas Southern got a run on the board in the top of the fourth, making the score 14-1.
The Longhorns added two insurance runs, making the score 16-1, in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Ace Whitehead.
In the top of the sixth, the Tigers score one run and left the score at 16-2.
Texas responded with two runs to take the score to 18-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Texas Southern scored one more run in the top of the seventh to make it 18-3.
