Lucas Gordon pitched eighth solid innings and the Longhorns hit five homers to beat TCU 8-4.

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Baseball hit five home runs and road eight innings from Lucas Gordon to beat TCU 8-4 in the series opener on Saturday night at Lupton Stadium.

The Longhorns (29-15, 9-7) pounded out 11 hits, including five home runs to pick up the win over the Horned Frogs.

Gordon pitched a career-high eight innings and allowed four runs to improve to 5-0 on the season. He struck out five batters and issued just one walk in his eight innings of work.

Eric Kennedy launched two solo homers, while Tanner Carlson, Jack O'Dowd and Garret Guillemette each hit solo bombs.

The Longhorns scratched out a run in the top of the first on a couple of hits from Peyton Powell and Dylan Campbell before a sacrifice fly by Guillemette to make the score 1-0.

Texas tacked on three more runs in the second to extend the lead to 4-0. Kennedy and O'Dowd both hit solo home runs for the first runs of the inning. With two outs, Jared Thomas doubled to deep center field and Powell drove him in with an RBI single.

The Longhorns hit two more solo homers in the third inning to grab a commanding 6-0 lead. Kennedy hit his second blast of the game and Tanner Carlson went back-to-back for his first homer as a Longhorn.

TCU got on the board with a three-run fourth inning to trim the Longhorns' lead to 6-3.

Guillemette launched the Longhorns' fifth homer of the game in the top of the seventh to tack on a run. The Horned Frogs got the run right back on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 7-4.

Texas tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth after Campbell walked, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Porter Brown to make it 8-4.

Heston Tole closed out the ballgame with a perfect ninth inning with two groundouts and a fly out.
