AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball picked up an emphatic 10-4 win over No. 6 West Virginia to clinch the series win on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (37-18, 14-9) will go for the sweep of the Mountaineers and a share of the Big 12 Championship in the regular season finale on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Dylan Campbell had an incredible all-around game, while extending his program record hitting streak to 32 games. He went 2-for-5 with two RBI, three runs scored, a double and a homer to go along with a highlight reel sliding catch and an outfield assist.
Jared Thomas, Peyton Powell and Eric Kennedy also each hit a home run in the game.
Lebarron Johnson Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs on five hits. He struck out 11 batters and earned his seventh win of the season.
The Mountaineers scored a run in the top of the first on a solo home run to take a short-lived 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns had an immediate response, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. Thomas and Powell started the game with singles and Campbell drove in the first run with an RBI ground-rule double to left field. Garret Guillemette plated the go-ahead run with a sacrificed fly and Kennedy followed with a two-out two-run homer to make the score 4-1.
Texas scored three more runs in the second, using two more home runs. Jalin Flores started the inning with a single and Thomas launched a two-run homer to right-center field. With one out, Campbell blasted a solo home run out to left field to make the lead 7-1.
West Virginia got a run back in the top of the third to cut the lead to 7-2 but Johnson did well to limit the damage and strand the bases loaded.
The Longhorns tacked on an additional run in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Porter Brown to drive in Campbell and make the score 8-2.
Powell hammered his 10th home run of the season in the sixth, a line-drive solo homer to make the lead 9-2.
Texas added its 10th run of the game in the seventh, when Jack O'Dowd drove in Kennedy with an RBI single.
The Mountaineers scored two runs in top of the ninth before David Shaw came in and closed out the win.
