Baseball wins Big 12 Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball completed the sweep of No. 6 West Virginia with a 7-3 victory to win the Big 12 Conference Championship on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns finished the regular season with a 38-18 overall record and 15-9 league mark to earn the No. 1 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship.
Texas jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first three innings and held on for the win.
Dylan Campbell went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, one RBI and one run scored and extended his program record hitting streak to 33 consecutive games.
Tanner Witt picked up his second-consecutive win in a designated start, pitching three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. David Shaw pitched two innings and allowed just one run, while Morehouse pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. Charlie Hurley picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning, after coming in with a runner on.
The Longhorns jumped out to a 4-0 lead on four hits in the bottom of the first. For the third-straight game of the series Jared Thomas, Peyton Powell and Campbell started the game with a hit and Campbell drove in the first run with an RBI double. Garret Guillemette followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in the second run.
After a couple of walks, West Virginia made a pitching change and Jalin Flores greeted the reliever with a two-run single.
Texas tacked on another run in the second inning after Thomas doubled and Powell drove him in with an RBI single.
Flores blasted his third home run of the season, a solo shot in the third to extend the Longhorns' lead to 6-0.
The Mountaineers got a run back on a solo home run off of Shaw in the fourth and then hit a two-run homer off of Travis Sthele in the seventh to make the score 6-3.
Texas tacked on a big insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Guillemette hit an RBI single to drive in Thomas.
