Baseball rallies for 7-5 win over Stanford

The Longhorns scored five runs in the ninth to complete a 7-5 comeback win.
STANFORD, Calif. – Texas Baseball trailed 5-2 going to the ninth before scoring five runs to pull out an epic 7-5 win over Stanford in the NCAA Stanford Super Regional on Saturday at Sunken Diamond.
The Longhorns (42-20) and Cardinal will square off in Game 2 of the Super Regional on Sunday at 8 p.m. CT.
Texas overcame of a 5-2 deficit through eighth innings by scoring five runs on just one hit in the top of the ninth. Eric Kennedy, Jalin Flores and Jack O'Dowd all started the inning with free passes to load the bases with nobody out. Mitchell Daly followed with a fly ball into the gap in right field that fell in due to an error, allowing two runs to score. Jared Thomas then tied the game up 5-5 with an RBI groundout.
After an intentional walk to Dylan Campbell and a strikeout, Porter Brown delivered a clutch two-run single to right field to drive in the game-winning runs.
Ace Whitehead picked up the win with a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen. Zane Morehouse earned his seventh save of the season with a perfect ninth inning, striking out the side.
Lucas Gordon started and pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out four batters and finished with four walks. Charlie Hurley pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief and allowed two runs on two hits.
Stanford opened the scoring after loading the bases in the bottom of the first, but Gordon was able to limit the damage to just one run. They added a run to the lead in the third on a pair of doubles to make the score 2-0.
Texas tied the game up 2-2 in the fifth off the bat of Kennedy, who launched his 17th home run of the season.
Stanford retook the lead, 3-2, with a solo homer in the sixth before Hurley came in from the bullpen to get the Longhorns out of the jam. The Cardinal extended its lead to 5-2 in the seventh with a two-out two-run homer.
The Longhorns threatened in the eighth with two runners on but couldn't scratch out a run until the big ninth inning.
