No. 22 Men’s Golf climbs into tie for third after day two at Southern Highlands Collegiate

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The No. 22 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 7-over-par 295 on Monday to climb into a tie for third place after the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Senior Nathan Petronzio fired a bogey-free 3-under 69 in the second round and is tied for third in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 4-under-par 140 (71-69).
The Longhorns have recorded a two-round total of 3-over-par 579 (284-295) and are only four strokes off the lead entering Tuesday's final round. No. 15 Oklahoma (284-291) owns the 36-hole lead in the team standings at 1-under-par 575 (284-291). No. 1 North Carolina is second at 2-over-par 578 (283-295), while No. 16 Florida (278-301) is tied with Texas for third. The 15-team field features eight squads in the latest Top 25 of the national rankings provided by Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
Jack Lundin of Missouri holds the 36-hole individual lead at 8-under-par 136 (66-70). Florida's Ian Gilligan is second at 6-under-par 138 (67-71), while Petronzio is tied for third with Drew Goodman of Oklahoma (70-70) and Auburn's Jackson Koivun (70-70) at 4-under-par 140.
The Southern Highlands Collegiate concludes with a final round on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Texas will be paired with Oklahoma and North Carolina for Tuesday's final round and will tee off at hole No. 1 beginning at 10:40 a.m. PT (12:40 p.m. CT).
The Lineup
- Senior Nathan Petronzio fired a 3-under 69 on Monday to climb 23 spots and move into a tie for third in the individual standings with a 36-hole score of 4-under-par 140 (71-69). Petronzio made birdies on holes 4, 9 and 14 in addition to 15 pars to complete his bogey-free round.
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison posted a 1-over 72 in his second round and jumped 17 spots to climb into a tie for 22nd with a two-round total of 1-over-par 145 (72-73). Morrison tallied three birdies and four bogeys on Monday, closing his round with a birdie on the par-five 18th hole.
- Sophomore Jacob Sosa recorded a 6-over 78 on Monday and is tied for 35th with a 36-hole score of 3-over-par 147 (69-78).
- Sophomore Keaton Vo carded a 3-over 75 for the second straight round and is tied for 51st place at 6-over-par 150 (75-75). Vo tallied three birdies during his round on Monday.
- Graduate Brian Stark registered a 6-over 78 and is tied for 51st with a 36-hole total of 6-over-par 150 (72-78).
- Competing as an individual, freshman Jack Gilbert posted a 13-over 85 on Monday and is in 82nd place at 17-over-par 161 (76-85).
