No. 19 Men’s Golf tied for third after day one at Johnnie-O Intercollegiate

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The No. 19 Texas Men's Golf team fired a two-round total of 13-under-par 563 (287-276) on Monday to rest in a tie for third place after the opening day of the Johnnie-O Intercollegiate at Sea Island Plantation Course. Sophomore Christiaan Maas posted a 36-hole score of 7-under-par 137 (69-68) and is third in the individual standings.
The Longhorns are six strokes behind second-round team leader Notre Dame at 19-under-par 557 (287-270) entering Tuesday's final round. Cincinnati is second at 14-under-par 562 (278-284), and Texas is tied for third with Michigan State (287-276) at 13-under-par 563.
Ashton McCulloch of Michigan State holds the 36-hole individual lead at 14-under-par 130 (68-62), while Notre Dame's Palmer Jackson is second at 10-under-par 134 (69-65). Maas is seven strokes behind McCulloch entering Tuesday's final round. Sophomore Tommy Morrison is tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 3-under-par 141 (73-68).
The Johnnie-O Intercollegiate concludes with a final round on Tuesday, March 12. Texas will be paired with No. 16 Illinois and UNCG for Tuesday's final round and will tee off at hole No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m. ET (7:50 a.m. CT).
The Lineup
- Sophomore Christiaan Maas carded a 36-hole total of 7-under-par 137 (69-68) on Monday and is third in the individual standings. During his morning round, Maas was even-par through his first 11 holes before closing with birdies on holes 14, 15 and 18 to finish at 3-under 69. He returned in his afternoon round and registered six birdies against two bogeys en route to his 4-under 68.
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison is tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard after posting a two-round score of 3-under-par 141 (73-68). His morning round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 14th hole. During his afternoon round, Morrison tallied four birdies and an eagle on the par-five 8th hole against two bogeys en route to his 4-under 68.
- Graduate Brian Stark posted a 36-hole score of 1-over-par 145 (74-71) on Monday and is tied for 29th place. Stark carded a pair of birdies against just one bogey and made 15 pars during his afternoon round of 1-under 71.
- Senior Nathan Petronzio recorded a two-round total of 1-over-par 145 (71-74) and is tied for 29th. He tallied three birdies against a pair of bogeys and made 13 pars during his morning round of 1-under 71.
- Sophomore Jacob Sosa is in 72nd place after posting a 36-hole total of 6-over-par 150 (81-69). During his afternoon round, he carded four birdies against just one bogey en route to a 3-under 69.
