The Longhorns got great pitching and timely hitting and cruised to a win over the Cardinals.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 23 Texas Baseball played a clean game and cruised to a 7-1 win over Incarnate Word on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (10-6, 2-1) allowed just one run on five hits and issued just two free passes over the nine innings.

Jared Thomas went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs with a two-run home run and bases-loaded walk. Rylan Galvan went 2-for-4 with two RBI and also hit a two-run homer.

Grant Fontenot started and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one run and striking out four batters. He picked up the win as the designated starter.

Cole Selvig pitched three innings out of the bullpen and allowed just one run on three hits. David Shaw pitched a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout and Andre Duplantier II pitched a scoreless eighth with a strikeout and a douple play. Heston Tole pitched the final frame and struck out the side to end the game.

Texas opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run blast from Thomas. The homer was the first hit of the game for the Longhorns and came after Kimble Schuessler worked a walk.

The Longhorns added to the lead in the fourth, taking advantage of four walks and a pair of singles to go up 5-0.

Galvan launched the Longhorns' second two-run homer of the game in the fifth inning, going way out to center field to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Cardinals got a run across in the sixth inning, getting back-to-back two-out hits to break up the shutout.

Texas will continue its 10-game homestand this weekend, hosting Washington at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
