The Longhorns used a seven-run seventh inning to cruise to the win on Wednesday night.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball completed the midweek sweep of Air Force with a dominant 12-3 win on Wednesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (13-8), who scored 12 runs on 14 hits in the game, held just a 5-3 lead before exploding for a seven-run seventh inning to put the game away.
Max Belyeu went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBI, while Rylan Galvan was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI. Will Gasparino finished 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, four RBI and two runs scored.
Charlie Hurley made his fourth start of the season and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out four batters and picked up his second win of the season.
David Shaw pitched two innings of relief and allowed one run, while Luke Harrison and Hudson Hamilton each tossed scoreless innings to finish off the game.
Air Force scratched out a run in the second inning on a walk and two singles to grab a short-lived 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns immediately responded and jumped in front with a four-run bottom of the second with three hits and a couple of free passes. Galvan and Porter Brown both singled to start the inning and Gasparino drove them in with a double to left field. Gasparino then scored on a wild pitch and Jared Thomas walked and later scored on a passed ball.
Belyeu extended the lead to 5-1 with a towering solo home run out to right field in the fifth inning. The Falcons cut into that lead with a run in the sixth and one more in the seventh to make the score 5-3.
Texas blew the game open with a seven-run seventh inning, in which the Longhorns batted around without recording an out to take a 12-3 lead. The inning started with eight-consecutive hits and a walk before the first out was recorded.
Peyton Powell, Jalin Flores and Kimble Schuessler all hit singles to load the bases before Belyeu drove in two runs with a double to center field. Galvan followed up with a two-run homer to left field before the Falcons changed pitchers. Porter Brown doubled off of the new reliever and Will Gasparino followed with an opposite field two-run homer. A pinch-hit single by Jack O'Dowd and a walk by Jared Thomas completed the streak of nine-straight Longhorns reaching base.
Texas will turn its attention back to Big 12 Conference play this weekend, hosting Baylor for a three-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
