Baseball uses eight-run ninth to win series at Houston

The Longhorns trailed 8-5 going to the ninth before an epic comeback to clinch the series.
HOUSTON, Texas – Texas Baseball used an eight-run top of the ninth to complete a miraculous comeback and win the series clinching game over Houston, 13-8, on Sunday at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
Trailing 8-5 going to the ninth, the Longhorns (22-15, 9-6) proceeded to bash out eight runs on eight hits to flip the game on its head. Texas hit three home runs in the inning, including Jalin Flores' 14th home run of the season which served as the winning run.
Rylan Galvan had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, a homer and three RBI. Will Gasparino was also great offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored.
David Shaw pitched two innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit to pick up the win. Gage Boehm slammed the door in the ninth with a perfect frame.
The Longhorns opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning. Gasparino doubled to straight-away center field before Galvan blasted a two-run homer down the left field line.
Houston had an immediate response, hitting a two-out three-run homer in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead off of Lebarron Johnson Jr.
The Cougars loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the fourth and managed to score two runs to extend the lead to 5-2. Houston tacked on in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homer to go up 7-2.
The Longhorns picked up one run in the seventh with Galvan hitting a single and scoring on a two-out RBI double by Dee Kennedy.
Texas tacked on two more in the eighth inning after Gasparino hit an RBI double to drive in Max Belyeu. Gasparino then stole third base and scored on an errant throw to cut the lead to 7-5.
The Cougars got one of the runs right back in the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run.
Down three runs going to the ninth, the Longhorns put together an incredible inning to win the game and the series. Jared Thomas got it started with a one-out double and scored after Kennedy beat out an infield single and the throw got away. Peyton Powell then tied the game up with a two-run homer to right field. Flores went back-to-back with the game-winning solo home run to left.
After a pitching change, Kimble Schuessler worked a walk and Max Belyeu followed with a two-run blast. The inning continued with back-to-back singles by Gasparino and Galvan for another run. Thomas capped off the inning with an RBI single to right to put the game away.
The Longhorns return home to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for a five-game homestand starting against UTRGV on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
