No. 17 Men’s Golf wins Big 12 Championship

The Longhorns claim their ninth overall Big 12 title and first since 2017 with a dominant 18-stroke victory.
TRINITY, Texas — The No. 17 Texas Men's Golf team fired a final-round team score of 12-under-par 276 on Wednesday to win the Big 12 Championship in dominant fashion at Whispering Pines Golf Club. This marked the ninth overall Big 12 Conference team title for the Longhorns and first since 2017.
Entering the final round with an 11-stroke cushion, Texas built on that advantage and finished with an impressive 18-stroke margin over runner-up No. 14 Oklahoma. The Longhorns counted scores from sophomore Christiaan Maas (4-under 68), sophomore Keaton Vo (4-under 68), senior Nathan Petronzio (3-under 69) and graduate Brian Stark (1-under 71) during Wednesday's final round.
Texas carded a 72-hole total of 25-under-par 1127 (285-291-275-276), while the Sooners were second at 7-under-par 1145 (296-286-280-283). Oklahoma State took third at 2-under-par 1150 (295-284-284-287). Since the league's inception prior to the 1996-97 season, the Longhorns have now recorded Big 12 team titles in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2024.
Stark tied for sixth in the individual standings with a four-round total of 5-under-par 283 (73-72-67-71), while Vo (70-71-75-68) and Petronzio (70-75-70-69) each tied for eighth at 4-under-par 284. The trio of Stark, Vo and Petronzio were each named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team by virtue of their top-10 individual finish. Sophomore Tommy Morrison narrowly missed earning a spot on the all-tourney team with a tie for 11th place at 3-under-par 285 (72-73-66-74).
Texas will await the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Selection Show on Wednesday, May 1. The show is set to air from 1-2 p.m. Central and will be televised nationally by Golf Channel. The University of Texas will serve as one of six regional host sites, as competition will be held at The University of Texas Golf Club on May 13-15.
The Lineup
- Graduate Brian Stark carded a 1-under 71 on Wednesday to tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard with a 72-hole total of 5-under-par 283 (73-72-67-71). This marked a season-best finish for Stark, topping his tie for 13th at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 25-26). He has now recorded four top-15 individual finishes this season. Stark tallied three birdies (holes 3, 6 and 12) against two bogeys while making 13 pars during his final round.
- Sophomore Keaton Vo fired a season-best 4-under 68 in the final round to tie for eighth in the individual standings with a four-round score of 4-under-par 284 (70-71-75-68). His prior season-low 18-hole score was 70, set three times previously. This marked a season-best finish for Vo, besting his tie for 13th at the Johnnie-O Individual (Mar. 11-12). He recorded five birdies (holes 2, 5, 6, 12 and 17) against just one bogey on Wednesday.
- Senior Nathan Petronzio posted a 3-under 69 on Wednesday to tie for eighth with a 72-hole total of 4-under-par 284 (70-75-70-69). This marked a season-best finish for Petronzio, topping his tie for ninth at both the Southern Highlands Collegiate (Feb. 25-27) and the Western Intercollegiate (Apr. 15-17). He has now tallied three top-10 and six top-25 individual finishes this year. Petronzio registered six birdies (holes 1, 5, 8, 10, 12 and 14) and an eagle on the par-five 2nd hole during the final round.
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison carded a 2-over 74 in the final round to tie for 11th with a four-round score of 3-under-par 285 (72-73-66-74). He has now registered five top-12 individual finishes this year. Morrison posted four birdies on Wednesday.
- Sophomore Christiaan Maas fired a 4-under 68 on Wednesday and climbed 20 spots to place in a tie for 18th with a 72-hole total of 2-over-par 290 (73-77-72-68). This marked his fifth top-20 finish of the season. Maas tallied seven birdies (holes 1, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13 and 14) during the final round.
