NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Baseball dropped the series opener to No. 18 Oklahoma, 9-4, on Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Longhorns (25-18, 11-8) will look to bounce back and even the series on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Jared Thomas went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two RBI and two runs scored, while Jalin Flores was also 3-for-5 with one RBI.

Max Grubbs started and pitched five innings but fell victim to four unearned runs in the loss. He was charged with just one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Oklahoma took advantage of three errors in the second inning, scoring three unearned runs to take a 3-0 lead. Another unearned run came across in the third inning to extend the Sooners lead to 4-0.

The Longhorns got on the board in the top of the fifth after Thomas hit a one-out double and Flores drove him in with an RBI single up the middle.

Oklahoma added a run to the lead in the sixth with a solo home run to go up 5-1. David Shaw was called in from the bullpen to get out of the inning.

Texas picked up a run in the seventh on singles by Dee Kennedy, Thomas and Peyton Powell to trim the lead to 5-2.

The Sooners had an immediate answer with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to build the lead to 8-2.

Thomas hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to cut the lead down to 8-4 but Oklahoma had another answer in the bottom of the eighth with a run to put the game away.
