No. 18 Men’s Golf earns runner-up finish at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The No. 18 Texas Men's Golf team fired an impressive final-round score of 9-under-par 279 on Sunday to place second in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Sophomore Tommy Morrison carded a 5-under 67 in Sunday's final round and climbed into a tie for 10th place in the individual standings with a three-round score of 3-under-par 213 (68-78-67).
The Longhorns counted under-par rounds on Sunday from Morrison, graduate Brian Stark (2-under 70), senior Nathan Petronzio (1-under 71) and sophomore Keaton Vo (1-under 71). Texas registered a 54-hole score of 15-under-par 849 (285-285-279) to finish six strokes behind team champion and No. 1-ranked North Carolina at 21-under-par 843 (281-279-283). Oklahoma State placed third at 13-under-par 851 (285-288-278). The 15-team field featured five squads in the Top 25 of the national rankings provided by Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
Sophomore Christiaan Maas was the top Texas individual in ninth place with a three-round score of 4-under-par 212 (70-69-73). In addition to the top-10 finishes from both Maas and Morrison, Stark tied for 14th at 2-under-par 214 (73-71-70) and Petronzio tied for 20th at even-par 216 (74-71-71).
Tobias Johnson of Mercer earned individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 9-under-par 207 (71-68-68). Oklahoma State's Bo Jin placed second at 8-under-par 208 (70-72-66), while a group of four golfers tied for third at 6-under-par 210.
The Longhorns return to the course when they compete in the Western Intercollegiate on April 15-17 (Monday-Wednesday) in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The Lineup
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison carded a final-round 5-under 67 on Sunday and tied for 10th place with a 54-hole score of 3-under-par 213 (68-78-67). This marked Morrison's second top-10 finish of the season, as he previously registered a tie for sixth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (Feb. 25-27). He began Sunday's round at 3-over through his first three holes but rallied to record eight birdies (holes 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 17 and 18) and seven pars over his final 15 holes to post his 5-under 67.
- Sophomore Christiaan Maas fired a 1-over 73 in Sunday's final round and placed ninth on the individual leaderboard with a three-round total of 4-under-par 212 (70-69-73). This marked Maas' third top-10 showing of the season. Maas tallied four birdies and one eagle (par-five 9th hole) on Sunday.
- Graduate Brian Stark posted a 2-under 70 on Sunday and tied for 14th with a 54-hole score of 2-under-par 214 (73-71-70). This marked his second-straight top-15 finish and third of the season, as he was coming off a season-best tie for 13th place at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 25-26). Stark was 1-over through his first 10 holes on Sunday before closing his round with three birdies (11, 14 and 16) and five pars to card his 2-under 70.
- Senior Nathan Petronzio recorded a 1-under 71 in the final round and tied for 20th with a three-round total of even-par 216 (74-71-71). This marked his third top-20 showing of the season and fourth-straight top-25 finish. Petronzio tallied two birdies (holes 6 and 9) against just one bogey en route to his 1-under 71 on Sunday.
- Sophomore Keaton Vo registered a 1-under 71 on Sunday and tied for 37th with a 54-hole score of 3-over-par 219 (74-74-71). He recorded four birdies against three bogeys in Sunday's final round.
