No. 25 Baseball walks off Kansas to win series opener

Jalin Flores hit a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to give Texas the win.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 25 Texas Baseball walked off Kansas, 5-4, in the series opener on Thursday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. After giving up a go-ahead homer in the top of the ninth, the Longhorns (33-20, 18-10) had an immediate response to win it on a Jalin Flores RBI double in the bottom of the ninth.
Texas took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning before the Jayhawks hit a two-out two-run homer to take their first lead of the game. In the bottom of the ninth, freshman Casey Borba started the inning with a pinch-hit solo homer to tie the game up. After a walk by Jared Thomas, Flores delivered the game-winner with an RBI double into the gap in right-center field.
Gage Boehm pitched two innings of relief with two strikeouts and was credited with the win. Charlie Hurley started and pitched six stellar scoreless innings with just four hits allowed. He struck out a career-high nine batters to just one walk allowed.
Flores finished 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI double, while Thomas was 2-for-3 with two walks, a triple, one RBI, one run scored.
Will Gasparino also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and one run scored.
The Longhorns got on the board in the fifth inning after Gasparino hit a one-out triple and Jared Thomas drove him in with a triple into the rightfield corner.
Gasparino tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning with a bases-loaded two-run single up the middle to make the score 3-0.
Kansas came right back in the seventh inning to score two runs and cut the Longhorns lead to just 3-2 before Andre Duplantier II came out of the bullpen to get out of the jam.
The Jayhawks scored two in the top of the ninth before Texas scored its two runs in the bottom half to win it.
The Longhorns will look to lock up the series win in Game 2 on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
