No. 25 Baseball sweeps Kansas on Senior Day

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 25 Texas Baseball completed the series sweep of Kansas to close out the regular season on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (35-20, 20-10) won their sixth-consecutive Big 12 Conference series and their ninth overall league series of the season.
Kimble Schuessler went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the offense. Peyton Powell, Max Belyeu and Casey Borba also each finished with two RBI in the game
Lebarron Johnson Jr. tossed six innings and allowed just one run on five hits to pick up the win. He struck out seven batters and issued just one walk in the game. Gage Boehm pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to pick up his eighth save of the season.
The Longhorns scratched out a run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Jared Thomas started the game with a single, stole second base, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on an RBI groundout by Belyeu.
Texas tacked on another run in the third after Jalin Flores singled and Powell drove him in with a two-out RBI double down the left field line.
The Jayhawks came back in the fourth with their first hits of the game to scratch out a run and cut the lead to 2-1.
Schuessler got the run right back in the bottom of the fourth, launching his ninth home run of the season to make the score 3-1.
The Longhorns created some separation in the fifth with four runs on four hits to make the lead 7-1. Thomas was walked and Powell was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. Belyeu drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI double to left-center but Powell was thrown out at home. After a pitching change, Schuessler drove in Belyeu with an RBI single to right field.
Borba provided the biggest blow in the inning, blasting a two-run home run to left field for his second homer of the series.
Powell added a run to the lead in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1.
Kansas put together a big seventh inning to cut into the Texas lead with four runs, including three unearned to make it an 8-5 game.
The Jayhawks scored two more runs in the eighth inning to cut the lead all the way down to 8-7.
Texas got a run right back in the bottom of the eighth though after a double by Will Gasparino and a sacrifice fly by Thomas.
The Longhorns will now turn their attention to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Globe Life Field in Arlington, starting on Tuesday, May 21.
