No. 4 Volleyball survives in 3-2 win at Auburn

AUSTIN, Texas. — The No. 4 Texas Volleyball team (20-2, 10-2 SEC) took a 3-2 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 15-9) win in a close five-set match at Auburn. The Longhorns remain undefeated against the Tigers, improving to 3-0 and concluded their regular season road journey with a 9-1 record.
Junior Torrey Stafford led the charge for the Longhorns with a career high 32 kills while hitting .417, her ninth game this season hitting over .400. Freshman Cari Spears recorded double-digit kills (14) for the seventh-straight match and added seven digs. Senior Ella Swindle totaled a match-leading 43 assists, while contributing seven digs and three blocks.
Sophomore Ayden Ames registered six blocks, tying her career high, while senior Emma Halter added 17 digs and four assists. Senior Whiteney Lauenstein delivered seven critical kills and two blocks for the Longhorns while junior Ramsey Gary recorded a season-high 19 digs in the win. The Longhorns limited the Tigers at a .211 hitting percentage and forced 22 errors. Texas tallied 76 digs, it second highest of the season.
Set One: The Longhorns dominated the opening set utilizing a 5-0 run with back-to-back aces. Texas recorded a .600 hitting percentage with four aces, with Nya Bunton contributing a career-high three of her own. Stafford led the team scoring with eight kills and hit perfect in the set (8-for-8). Swindle and Halter totaled 12 assists and four digs.
Set Two: Texas took the second set of the match, 25-21. The Longhorns limited the Tigers to a .095 hitting percentage and just ten kills, while forcing six errors. Stafford led the team with six kills while Gary registered a set-leading six digs.
Set Three: Auburn won set three over the Longhorns 25-21. Stafford and Lauenstein together tallied 11 kills, each hitting .500 and .625, respectively.
Set Four: Texas was unable to capitalize on a 5-0 run as it dropped the fourth set of the game 25-22. Stafford and Spears combined for 11 kills for the Longhorns behind Swindle's 10 assists while Halter contributed seven digs.
Set Five: Stafford and Gary sealed the win for Texas with five kills and eight digs in the fifth set, respectively, as the Longhorns won the set 15-9. Texas held the Tigers to a .000 attacking percentage off 31 attempts and forced six errors. The Longhorns are now 4-1 in five-set matches this season.
