Longhorns snap streak of 13 consecutive series victories
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The top-ranked University of Texas baseball team dropped its first Southeastern Conference series, falling to No. 11 Arkansas, 6-1, at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Prior to Friday night, the Longhorns (38-7, 19-4 SEC) were the lone team in the SEC to win all seven of its series in league play. Texas' defeat also snapped a streak of 13 consecutive series victories, marking its longest such streak in over 35 years.
The Razorbacks (39-9, 16-7 SEC) put up a four-spot in the second, highlighted by a solo shot and a bases-clearing double.
Arkansas' early offense proved to be more than enough for starter Gage Wood (1-0) and the Razorbacks' bullpen.
Wood — who was on a pitch count — struck out nine batters across four innings of one-run baseball.
Right-handers Gabe Gaeckle and Aiden Jimenez combined to toss five scoreless the rest of the way.
Texas lefty Luke Harrison (4-1) was charged with the loss after pitching the first four frames.
In the defeat, catcher Rylan Galvan clubbed his team-leading 13th homer of the year.
The Longhorns and Razorbacks will conclude the three-game set on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
