Longhorns land first ranked victory of season to open BRUCE BOLT College Classic

HOUSTON — No. 3 Texas launched a season-best four home runs to blast No. 9 Coastal Carolina, 8-1, in the BRUCE BOLT College Classic at Daikin Park on Friday night.

In the Longhorns' star-studded lineup, eight-hole hitter Temo Becerra shined the brightest with his first career multi-homer game to lead Texas (9-0) to its first ranked win of the year.

Becerra lifted a solo shot in the fourth and a two-run jack in the eighth, landing both round-trippers into the iconic Crawford Boxes in left.

Designated hitter Ashton Larson went back-to-back with Becerra in the eighth, shooting an opposite field laser into orbit for his first home run in burnt orange.

Center fielder Aiden Robbins ignited the derby with a 466-foot moon shot that caromed off the infamous Phillips 66 Home Run Train atop the left-field wall. Robbins also rocketed a sacrifice fly to bookend the late evening.

Texas' pitching staff left its own footprint on the top-10 showdown, as the Longhorns recorded 17 strikeouts, which marked their most since tallying 19 at Oklahoma State on April 3, 2015.

Against a lineup packed with firepower, right-hander Ruger Riojas (3-0) mounted a career-high 11 strikeouts. Riojas faced two batters over the minimum, sprinkling one hit and one walk across five innings to earn his third straight victory.

Relievers Max Grubbs, Ethan Walker, Brett Crossland and Hudson Hamilton navigated through the Chanticleers (6-3) the rest of the way, allowing just one run on two hits.

After completing its weekend-opening mission in Space City, Texas turns its attention to longtime conference foe Baylor. The timeless rivalry is set to be renewed at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
