No. 4 Men’s Golf finishes as runner-up at Amer Ari Invitational

The Longhorns set program records for 54-hole total score (800) and 54-hole score vs. par (64-under).
WAIMEA, Hawaii — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a final-round 21-under 267 on Saturday to finish as the runner-up in the Amer Ari Invitational at Mauna Lani Resort. The Longhorns established program records for both 54-hole total score (800) and 54-hole score vs. par (64-under) during the event.
Senior Luke Potter placed fourth in the individual standings with a three-round score of 18-under 198 (63-65-70). Seniors Tommy Morrison (69-67-64) and Christiaan Maas (69-66-65) both tied for eighth at 16-under 200. During Saturday's final round, Texas counted scores from Morrison (8-under 64), Maas (7-under 65), graduate Matt Comegy (4-under 68) and Potter (2-under 70) to record a team round of 21-under 267. Competing as an individual, junior Jack Gilbert posted a 7-under 65 in his final round.
The Longhorns, who were tied for sixth after the opening round and in third place after Friday's second round, moved up one spot on the final day to finish in second place with a 54-hole score of 64-under 800 (269-264-267). Texas set a school record for low 54-hole total score with its three-round total of 800. The previous mark was 808 at last year's Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 6-8, 2025). The Longhorns also established a program record for low 54-hole total vs. par at 64-under. The previous record was 56-under at last year's Amer Ari Invitational.
No. 7 Auburn earned the team title with a 54-hole score of 77-under 787 (256-273-258). Texas placed second at 64-under 800, while No. 5 Arizona State placed third at 58-under 806 (265-269-272). The 20-team field featured nine squads in the top 25 and four in the top 10 of the final fall Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Oct. 31).
Jackson Koivun of Auburn claimed individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 25-under 191 (62-62-67). Auburn's Cayden Pope placed second at 20-under 196 (65-68-63), and Michael Mjaaseth of Arizona State finished third at 19-under 197 (63-63-71). Potter took fourth at 18-under 198.
The Longhorns are back in action when they travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 1-3 (Sunday-Tuesday) to compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
The Lineup
- Senior Tommy Morrison carded an 8-under 64 on Saturday and jumped 11 spots to finish in a tie for eighth in the individual standings at 16-under 200 (69-67-64). Starting on hole 3, Morrison posted seven birdies (holes 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 2) along with an eagle on the par-five 15th against just one bogey during his final round. He has now recorded four top-eight individual performances in six events this season.
- Senior Christiaan Maas fired a 7-under 65 in his final round and tied for eighth at 16-under 200 (69-66-65). Starting on hole 2, Maas tallied seven birdies (holes 2, 6, 7, 11, 13, 15 and 1) along with an eagle on the par-five 10th hole against one double-bogey on Saturday. He has now registered four top-eight individual finishes in six tournaments this year.
- Senior Luke Potter recorded a 2-under 70 on Saturday and finished fourth in the individual standings at 18-under 198 (63-65-70). Starting on hole 1, Potter posted six birdies (holes 2, 5, 7, 9, 13 and 15) in his final round. He has now recorded three top-six performances in five events this season.
- Sophomore Eduardo Derbez Torres carded a 2-under 70 in his final round and tied for 24th at 12-under 204 (68-66-70). Starting on hole 1, Derbez Torres tallied six birdies (holes 2, 5, 7, 12, 14 and 15) on Saturday.
- Graduate Matt Comegys fired a 4-under 68 on Saturday and tied for 38th at 9-under 207 (69-70-68). Starting on hole 3, Comegys posted five birdies (holes 6, 10, 15, 16 and 17) against just one bogey in his final round.
- Competing as an individual, junior Jack Gilbert carded a 7-under 65 in his final round and tied for 38th at 9-under 207 (72-70-65). Starting on hole 16, Gilbert posted a bogey-free round on Saturday while making seven birdies (holes 16, 18, 1, 7, 12, 13 and 15).
