THE MATCHUP — Coming off a top-5 series win at Auburn, No. 2 Texas travels to face Houston at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park on Tuesday. In the all-time series, the Longhorns boast a 99-34-2 lead over the Cougars. Texas has won nine of the past 12 head-to-head meetings, including five of the last seven matchups. Houston head coach Todd Whitting worked under Longhorns skipper Jim Schlossnagle for seven seasons at TCU. From 2004-2010, the Horned Frogs compiled a 305-134 record, including seven straight conference championships. TCU competed in the NCAA postseason in all seven campaigns, highlighted by an NCAA Super Regional berth in 2009 and the program's first NCAA College World Series appearance in 2010.
EARNED THEIR STRIPES — The second-ranked Longhorns took two of three at No. 5 Auburn, clinching their first road series win over a top-5 team since May 2021. After getting walked-off 4-3 in the series opener, Texas bounced back with a 7-6 victory on Saturday and a 5-0 shutout on Sunday. In game two, the Longhorns raced out to a six-run lead and held off a large charge to even the series. Aiden Robbins homered for the third time in five at-bats, ringing a 109-mph rocket off the batter's eye in center. Texas capped off the weekend, delivering its first-ever shutout in SEC Play. Five Longhorns combined for a four-hit shutout to secure the series.
SCORCHING START — For just the third time in the last 21 years, the Longhorns are off to a 20-3 start. Last season, Texas notched a 44-14 record, earning the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. In 2005, the Longhorns finished with a 56-16 ledger, capturing their sixth national championship. Heading into the midweek, Texas has outscored its opponents, 205-69. As of March 23, the Longhorns rank 18th in OPS (.966) nationally. On the mound, Texas has posted the country's third-best ERA (2.72) and seventh-best WHIP (1.12). Meanwhile, the Longhorns' .985 fielding percentage is sixth-best in all of Division I Baseball.
THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU — Texas is ranked No. 2 by all five major outlets, trailing only consensus No. 1 UCLA. In the Southeastern Conference's preseason poll voted on by the league's 16 head coaches, the Longhorns were picked second behind defending national champion LSU. Texas was one of four programs to receive a first-place vote, joining LSU, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
MASTERING MIDWEEKS — Texas is 4-1 in midweek games, registering three run-rule wins in those contests. Last season, the Longhorns went 9-2 in midweeks. Since 2020, Jim Schlossnagle's clubs have notched a 56-11 (.836) ledger in midweek games, winning 28 of the last 32 contests.
