Potter claims medalist honors at 17-under to lead the Longhorns to their 19th-straight NCAA Championship appearance.
BRYAN, Texas — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 36-hole total of 38-under 538 (265-273) on Tuesday to win the NCAA Bryan Regional at Traditions Club and punch its ticket to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 29-June 3 at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif. Senior Luke Potter carded a 54-hole total of 17-under 199 (67-64-68) to claim individual medalist honors.
Texas extended its nation's longest current streak of consecutive NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship appearances to 19, dating back to the 2008 season. Oklahoma ranks second on the active streak list at 14, and the Sooners are currently competing at the NCAA Corvallis Regional which will conclude on Wednesday. The Longhorns have now recorded 11 regional team championships since the NCAA began using the qualifying system in 1989, including five titles in their last eight postseason trips (2018, 2019, 2021, 2024 and 2026).
The NCAA Bryan Regional featured 14 teams and five individual players, and the top five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams advanced to the NCAA Championship. Due to forecasted weather issues on Wednesday, the tournament adjusted its format following Monday's opening round and the decision was made to play 36 holes and finish the regional on Tuesday.
The Longhorns, who began the day in fourth place and five strokes off the lead after a 7-under 281 on Monday, posted a three-round score of 45-under 819 (281-265-273) to win the team title by five strokes. Texas tied its school record for 54-hole score-to-par in an NCAA Regional with its mark of 45-under, equaling its total of 45-under 819 in the 2016 NCAA Franklin (Tenn.) Regional. Tournament host and No. 27 Texas A&M finished runner-up at 40-under 824 (276-273-275), and Chattanooga placed third at 23-under 841 (286-276-279). No. 9 North Carolina took fourth at 19-under 845 (278-284-283), and No. 16 Tennessee earned the final qualifying spot in fifth at 18-under 846 (282-286-278).
Texas fired a 23-under 265 in Tuesday's morning round to set a school record for lowest 18-hole team score in an NCAA Regional, topping the previous mark of 20-under 268 in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Franklin (Tenn.) Regional. The Longhorns counted scores in the morning session from Potter (8-under 64), sophomore Daniel Bennett (6-under 66), senior Tommy Morrison (5-under 67) and senior Christiaan Maas (4-under 68), and the non-counting score was a 4-under 68 from graduate Matt Comegys. During the afternoon's final round, Texas counted scores from Morrison (5-under 67), Potter (4-under 68), Maas (4-under 68) and Comegys (2-under 70).
Potter claimed his second collegiate individual victory, as he previously won the title at The Hayt during his junior season in March 2025. He earned a one-shot win over runner-up Wheaton Ennis of Texas A&M, who posted a 16-under 200 (66-67-67). Tennessee's Josh Hill placed third at 14-under 202 (68-66-68). All five Longhorns finished in the top 14 on the individual leaderboard. Maas (70-68-68) and Morrison (72-67-67) each tied for fifth at 10-under 206. Bennett tied for 11th at 7-under 209 (72-66-71), and Comegys tied for 14th at 6-under 210 (72-68-70).
Potter became the eighth Longhorn to earn medalist honors at an NCAA Regional. His 54-hole score of 17-under 199 is second in program history at an NCAA Regional only to Doug Ghim who tallied a 17-under 196 in the 2018 NCAA Raleigh Regional. Potter registered just two bogeys during his 54 holes of competition at the Bryan Regional.
