· Placed eighth in the 400 IM (3:47.84) and 10th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:42.64) at the NCAA Championships
· Anchored UT[apos]s 400-yard freestyle relay to a fifth-place finish (2:52.09) at the NCAA Championships
· Also competed in the 200 IM at the NCAA Championships, where he clocked 1:46.44
· Recorded third-fastest 400 IM mark in school history with a time of 3:45.48 in the preliminary round at the NCAA Championships
· Clocked the sixth-fastest 200 backstroke mark (1:42.64) in school history at the NCAA Championships
· Claimed the 200 IM in 1:47.05 and the 200 backstroke in 1:44.04 at the Big 12 Championships
· Captured the 200 backstroke against Auburn (1:46.47), Georgia (1:48.96) and Arizona and SMU (1:46.94)
· Took first in the 400 IM against Arizona and SMU (3:54.89)
AS A SOPHOMORE (2005-06)
· Earned All-America honors as part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team and the 400-yard freestyle relay team as both squads finished third at the NCAA Championships with McDermott swimming a second split time of 1:35.61 in the 800 and a second split time of 43.19 in the 400
· Placed 17th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:45.38), 19th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:36.63) and 25th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:47.36) at the NCAA Championships
· Won the 200-yard individual (1:47.62) and 200-yard backstroke (1:43.14) titles and finished in second place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.83) at the Big 12 Championships
· Finished first in the 200-yard backstroke against Auburn with a time of 1:44.68 and took second in the 200-yard freestyle with 1:37.75. Both times met NCAA consideration qualifying standards
· Won the 100-yard freestyle (44.69) in dual meet against Georgia
· Met NCAA consideration qualifying standards in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:25.26) and the 100-yard backstroke (48.78) at the Texas Invitational

· Competing in his first Big 12 Conference Championships, won titles in the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays while earning runner-up finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle
· Took third in the 200-yard freestyle at the league meet
· At the Texas Invite, posted then season-best times in each of six events
· Individually at the Texas Invite, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke
· Helped Texas[apos] 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relay teams provisionally qualify and turn in the top times of the season in each respective event at the Texas Invite
