No. 5 Men's Golf in fourth place after two rounds of action at Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- The No. 5 Texas Men's Golf team climbed to fourth place at the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational with a 10-over-par 290 in Saturday's second round at Olympia Fields CC. The Longhorns (289-290=579, +19) were paced by junior Julio Vegas' 1-under 69 that moved him into a tie for ninth on the individual leaderboard at 3-over 143 after finishing Friday's opening round tied for 43rd place.
Vegas sank birdies at the fifth, seventh, 10th and 11th holes to offset bogeys on four, 12 and 18 for the 1-under round. He was one of just three players to finish under par as Saturday's average was 75.71, more than two strokes above Friday's 73.00 average.
Senior Dylan Frittelli followed up his opening-round 69 with a 71 and is tied for fourth place at even-par 140. Frittelli made par on 15 straight holes before carding a bogey-birdie-bogey finish.
Junior Cody Gribble (72-75) is tied for 32nd place at 7-over 147 while senior Alex Moon (74-75) and freshman Kramer Hickok (74-75) are two strokes back and tied for 45th.
Stanford (277-282=559, -1) maintained its first-round lead and holds an 11-stroke margin over second-place Oklahoma State (282-288=570). Auburn (285-293) rounds out the top three teams at 18-over 578, just one stroke ahead of Texas. Stanford's Cameron Wilson (69-67=136) is the 36-hole leader at 4-under.
Texas begins Sunday's final round at 8:40 a.m. Central on the first tee alongside Florida State and Alabama.
