A LOOK AT THE MATCHUP
• Texas leads the all-time series against Sam Houston State 73-18, including a 3-2 victory in the Minute Maid Classic in Houston in 2014. The game served as the de facto championship of the classic, as both squads entered the final game 2-0.
• Since Augie Garrido took the reigns of the Texas program in 1997, the Longhorns hold a 19-3 record vs. the Bearkats.
A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS
• Following a 2-2 week at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, the Longhorns moved to 14-6 at home this season where they hold a team ERA of 1.86 and a batting average of .279.
• Of Texas' 17 losses, seven have come by one run, including both of the losses to Oklahoma over the weekend. UT also has five losses by two runs and six in extra innings. Over the last 11 games, the Horns have dropped four in extras and three by one run.
• Junior left fielder Ben Johnson leads the Big 12 in multi-hit games (18), triples (7), total bases (84) and is tied for first in hits (54). Senior right fielder Collin Shaw leads the league in doubles (16).
• Johnson, who is on the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, has six games with three or more hits thus far.
• The Longhorn bullpen holds a 2.02 ERA. Senior left-hander Kirby Bellow and junior lefties Travis Duke and Ty Culbreth lead the way, combining for a 1.47 ERA and eight saves over 67.1 innings.
• The Texas offense leads the Big 12 in triples (14) and is tied for third in walks (150).
• The Longhorn pitchers are third in the conference with a 2.87 ERA and .243 batting average against, while the defense ranks second in fielding percentage (.977) and third in double plays turned (36).
• UT is outscoring its opponents 55-5 in the seventh and eighth innings, and is 13-0 when leading after seven frames.
• Freshmen Michael Cantu and Bret Boswell went a combined 8-for-16 in the series vs. OU with five walks (.619 ob%). Defensively, Cantu was also an impressive 3-of-3 throwing out OU base runners attempting to steal.
