AS A JUNIOR (2017)
Hit a career-high six home runs on the season and drove in 17 runs…started 33 games and appeared in 48 for the Longhorns…caught 7-of-21 attempted base stealers on the season…closed out the year on a five-game hitting streak, all in postseason games…went 8-for-19 (.421) over those five games…recorded three three-hit games on the year…also recorded a pair of hits in his return to his hometown of Corpus Christi, going 3-for-4 at TAMU-CC with a home run and two RBI…on Feb 22 at Sam Houston State, hit his first home run of the season and first since March 24, 2015 at Texas State.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2016)
Earned Academic All-Big 12 Baseball first team distinction honors for 2016… finished the regular season with a standout performance against Baylor (May 21) going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored … went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored against Prarie View A&M (May 3) … hit 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the first of a three-game series with Kansas (April 15) … went 2-for-3 and crossed home plate once in the final installment of a three-game series against TCU (March 26) … set a career high in walks (4) in a win over UTSA … between a three-game series against Tulane (March 18-20) and a single-game series win against UTSA (March 22) he hit 3-for-9 (.333), while walking seven times (.588 OBP in that span) … went 4-for-11 (.364), with two walks during the UNLV series (Feb. 19-21), hitting a double in each of the three games played … had four RBI in that series while scoring four runs of his own.
AS A FRESHMAN (2015)
Named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team … tied for the team lead and tied for eighth in the Big 12 with 33 walks on the season … earned Newcomer of the week honors for the second time this season April 13-19 by slashing .500/.714/.563 in the weekend series against Kansas, doubling and scoring three times each … the three doubles all came in the Sunday game (April 19), where he scored twice and had an RBI as well … was 4-for-9 with four walks in the Oklahoma series (April 10-12) … crushed his first career home run to dead center field against Texas State on March 24 … had a game-tying RBI double to go along with an RBI walk vs. Kansas State on March 21 (game one) … went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored and a walk vs. West Virginia on March 14 … was 2-for-4 with an RBI against Incarnate Word on March 10 … hit .357 (5-for-14) in a four-game series at Stanford (March 5-8), with a double, five runs scored, an RBI and four walks …was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, three runs scored and an RBI against Stanford on March 8 … earned Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Honors for February 16-22, hitting .375 (6-for-16) for the week … also tied for the team lead with seven RBIs while adding six runs and a pair of doubles, and drew a team-high six walks to have a team-best .545 on-base percentage during that span … went a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored, two doubles and five RBIs against Minnesota February 20 … the five-RBI performance marked the first time a freshman has done that since Cohl Walla and Jonathan Walsh both achieved it during the 2010 season … scored three runs and had two hits and two walks against UTSA on February 17 … started two games against Rice (game one Feb. 14 & 15), going 2-for-7 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk … went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in his college debut vs. Rice on February 14 (game one).

Lettered all four years in baseball at Moody High School for coach Joe Curiel … member of the Sports Writers Association Class 4A All-State Team as a senior … ranked 112th overall and number one catcher in the state by Perfect Game … first team All-State catcher as a junior … named a Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star as a senior … three time first team All-District catcher and was a second team All-District pitcher his freshman year … Perfect Game All-American as a senior … hit .352 for his career with 14 home runs and 109 RBI … also lettered four years as a quarterback on the football team … member of All-State Academic Team in both baseball and football … member of the National Honor Society who ranked seventh in his senior class and had perfect attendance K-12 … also was a member of the Principal's Advisory Committee and the Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society.

Son of Michael and Laura Cantu … named after his father, full name is Michael E. Cantu II … his dad was a NAIA All-American first baseman at Tarleton State University who went on to play seven years in the minor leagues … has two brothers , Marcus and Matthew, and a sister, Madilynn … selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 30th round of the 2014 MLB Draft … hasn’t declared a major but is interested in Sports Mangement.
