A LOOK AT THE MATCHUP
• Texas leads the all-time series with Texas State 42-9, including a 6-4 win in San Marcos earlier this season that featured a three-run, go-ahead home run by C.J Hinojosa in the eighth inning.
• The Longhorns have won 21 straight in the series though 12 of those games have been decided by two runs or less.
A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS
• After taking two of three games at Kansas this past weekend in Lawrence, Texas is right in the middle of the Big 12 race, two games out of first place, with an important series at TCU this coming weekend (April 24-26).
• Texas' 16 run, 23 hit performance against Kansas on Sunday set season highs in runs, hits, home runs (5) and extra base hits (13) in a game.
• The game marked the most runs scored by UT since 2011, most extra base hits in the BBCOR bat era (since '11), the most homers in a game since 2010 and the 23 hits were the most since UT matched the school record of 25 in 1998.
• Junior shortstop C.J Hinojosa shined on Sunday, as he became the first Longhorn to hit for the cycle since Kyle Russell on 4/24/07, while driving in four and scoring three times.
• Junior left fielder Ben Johnson also homered twice in the game, the second time this season he's done that (also March 5 at Stanford). He's the first Longhorn with two multi-home run games in a season since Kevin Keyes did it three times in 2010.
• Johnson leads the Big 12 in multi-hit games (19), triples (7), total bases (98), slugging percentage (.570) and is second in hits (60). Senior right fielder Collin Shaw leads the league in doubles (16).
• In the Kansas series, five Texas hitters hit over .300, including Michael Cantu (.500), Johnson (.462), Tres Barrera (.417), Hinojosa (.412) and Zane Gurwitz (.375).
• Cantu was named Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday after recording a slash line of .500/.714/.563 in the KU series. Its his second honor of the season (also Feb. 23).
• The Texas defense is fielding at a .979 clip which ranks second in the Big 12 and 11th nationally. The Longhorns didn't commit an error in the entire series at Kansas.
