C.J Hinojosa homers for the third time in the last two games

WACO, Texas -- The Texas baseball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader at Baylor, 7-1, Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

The Bears (21-29, 9-14 Big 12) broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fourth inning to earn the victory. Texas (25-25, 10-13 Big 12) got its lone run on a solo homer by C.J Hinojosa in the third inning, his third this weekend after homering twice in Saturday's series opener.

Baylor starting pitcher Nick Lewis (3-2) picked up the victory by stranding nine Texas base runners in his five innings of work, surrendering just the homer to Hinojosa while allowing five hits and walking six.

The Longhorns had the bases loaded with two outs in the second thanks to a pair of walks and a single from Kacy Clemens, but Lewis was able to wiggle out of it by getting a pop out to second base.

Texas nearly took the lead in the third following Hinojosa's solo homer, as Tres Barrera and Michael Cantu walked to put two on for Collin Shaw. Shaw drilled the first pitch he saw out to right field but Baylor's Adam Toth backed against the wall, leaped and made the catch above the wall to rob a three-run homer.

Josh Sawyer (3-3) was effective in his first three innings, allowing just one run in the first when the Bears manufactured a run without a hit (hit batter, stolen base, groundout, sacrifice fly), before Baylor broke through in the fourth.

In the decisive inning, a leadoff walk was followed by a single, two-run double and RBI single to make it 4-1. The Bears capped the scoring with a pair of home runs in the eighth inning, a two-run shot from Mitch Price and a solo homer by Darryn Sheppard.

Texas and Baylor are set to conclude the series and the regular season at 5:15 p.m.
