AUSTIN, Texas—

For the second time in four games this season, 12 innings of baseball resulted in a one-run loss for No. 23 Texas as it fell 1-0 to the visiting Stanford Cardinal on Thursday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The teams traded zeroes for the first 11 frames as both sides produced stellar pitching throughout the nearly-four-hour affair.

Longhorns freshman Nolan Kingham, making his first collegiate start, threw 4.2 scoreless frames, allowing just two hits and three walks on the evening. Stanford also started a freshman on the hill as Kris Bubic tossed 4.1 scoreless of his own.

Redshirt-freshman Kaleb Denny earned the first hit of the game off Bubic in what was also his first collegiate at-bat. Fellow freshman Tyler Rand continued his strong start to the season as he cranked out two hits on the evening to go along with his second stolen base of the year.

Stanford sophomore Colton Hock entered to pitch with one out in the fifth and strung along 5.2 scoreless innings against Texas. The Longhorns bullpen used scoreless outings from Travis Duke (0.1-IP), Blake Wellmann (3.0-IP) and Chase Shugart (1.2-IP) to push the game to extras before Stanford got to junior lefthander Jon Malmin in the 12th.

After a leadoff single by the Stanford catcher, the visitor's No. 9-hitter reached on a difficult sacrifice bunt attempt after Malmin threw it wide. Stanford dropped down another sacrifice to put runners on second and third with one out before Texas intentionally walked the bases loaded. A fielder's choice (and near double play) followed off the bat of Mikey Diekroeger pushed across the game's lone run.

The teams return to action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Texas is expected to start sophomore right-hander Kyle Johnston while Stanford will send freshman righty Tristan Beck to the hill.
