Josh Sawyer and Ty Culbreth combined for eight scoreless frames.
UFCU Disch-Falk Field welcomed back baseball on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 Longhorns win over a team primarily made up of UT alumni.
The Texas offense got things going early off Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Taylor Jungmann, plating a pair of first-inning runs thanks to a wild pitch and a Michael Cantu infield single.
Both Kody Clemens and Patrick Mathis added two hits apiece while Cantu reached base three times (single, two walks) and Tres Barrera collected two free passes. The Longhorns added one more in the second inning and Clemens' seventh-inning single drove in the game's final run.
The Alumni Team lineup—Drew Stubbs, Erich Weiss, Cameron Rupp, Kevin Keyes, Ben Johnson and Brooks Marlow plus two current Longhorns—was held hitless through four frames by junior Josh Sawyer, who walked just two while fanning six on the afternoon.
Ty Culbreth followed Sawyer's effort with four shutout innings of his own to keep the Alumni Team off the board and seal the win.
The afternoon began with fan appreciation activites that included an autograph session with the current team and later, the chance for fans to play catch in the outfield.
Texas opens the season on February 19 when the Longhorns host the UNLV Rebels in a three-game series.
