MANHATTAN, Kansas—A two-run Kansas State eighth inning sent the Longhorns to a 3-2 loss in the series finale at Tointon Family Stadium on Sunday.

After singling to open the eighth, Kacy Clemens advanced to second on a sacrifice and moved to third on a wild pitch. Patrick Mathis then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Clemens and put the Longhorns out ahead, 1-0.

Staked to a one-run lead, Johnston worked out of jams in the second and fourth innings but then retired eight in a row before the Longhorns went to the bullpen with one on and one out in the seventh.

Travis Duke entered in relief of Johnston and allowed a double to the only batter he faced, giving the Wildcats two in scoring position. Chase Shugart then came on and got a fly ball to right, but K-State scampered across home on the sacrifice to knot the game at 1-1.

In the eighth, however, the Wildcats took the lead. With two outs and a runner on first, the next K-State batter was hit with a pitch, setting up the opportunity to score. The next Wildcat singled to second to make it 2-1 before a rundown allowed the third run to come across and make it 3-2.

The Longhorns pulled it back to within one in the ninth when Zane Gurwitz hit his first home run of the season, but Texas could not complete the comeback.

The Longhorns return to action on Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. game vs. the University of Houston at Constellation Field in Sugar Land. Texas will be the home team in the game.
