Extra inning blast sends Baseball to 5-3 win over Baylor

After Travis Jones walked with two outs to keep the 10th alive, Kacy Clemens hit a two-run homer to put Texas on top for good.
WACO, Texas—A 10th-inning, two-out, two-run blast by Kacy Clemens lifted Texas Baseball to a 5-3 win over Baylor on Saturday afternoon in Waco.
After Texas (24-15, 7-8 Big 12) allowed the game-tying run to score in the ninth inning, Travis Jones found himself in an 0-2 hole with two outs in the top of the 10th. The junior—who went 4-for-4 with a double on the day—worked himself into a full count before drawing a walk to keep the inning alive. Kacy Clemens followed Jones and came through in the clutch once again for the Longhorns. The senior first baseman cranked the first pitch he saw into the Brazos River and put Texas back on top 5-3.
Beau Ridgeway (7) entered in the 10th and picked up his seventh save of the season with a perfect inning of work.
The Longhorns got out to an early 2-0 lead in the ballgame against the Bears. In the first, David Hamilton—who would later make the play of the year at shortstop—tripled with one out in the frame to present an opportunity for Jones. Jones followed with an RBI single to give Texas a 1-0 lead before Clemens singled to put runners on the corners. Michael McCann followed a sacrifice fly and the Longhorns led 2-0 after one.
Texas added to its lead the following inning when catcher Michael Cantu crushed a 1-2 offering over the left field wall to make it 3-0 in favor of the Longhorns.
Baylor crept its way back into the game however, tacking on a run in the fifth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth to force the game into extras.
Starting pitcher Kyle Johnston was solid on the mound for Texas as the junior went 6.1 allowing just two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five.
Sophomore Chase Shugart kept Baylor off the board in the eighth thanks in large part to a phenomenal play in the hole by the freshman shortstop Hamilton. The Bears got their third and final run of the ballgame off Nick Kennedy, who picked up the win to move to 5-0 on the year.
