Big inning sends Baseball to 8-1 defeat at the hands No. 24 Louisiana

The Ragin’ Cajuns plated seven runs in the first two frames to defeat the Longhorns.
AUSTIN, Texas—A six-run Ragin' Cajuns second inning sent Texas Baseball (28-16) to an 8-1 loss at the hands of No. 24 Louisiana (27-14-1) on Tuesday night at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
Louisiana plated one in the first off Blair Henley thanks to a pair of two-out hits but it was in the second inning that the Ragin' Cajuns broke things open.
With one out in the inning and two aboard, Louisiana got an RBI single to push its lead to 2-0 over the Longhorns. After Henley issued a hit by pitch to load the bases, lefthander Jon Malmin entered in relief. Malmin walked the first batter he faced to force in a run before Joe Robbins took a 3-2 offering over the left-centerfield wall for a grand slam, giving the Ragin' Cajuns a 7-0 advantage.
After Malmin walked the next batter he faced, he exited in favor of junior Jake McKenzie. McKenzie got two quick outs to end the inning and limit any further damage.
McKenzie then faced the minimum over the next three innings. He allowed just one hit, which was erased on a 1-6-3 double play, and he struck out four over his 3.2 innings of work.
Right-handed pitcher Connor Mayes entered in the seventh and tossed two innings of relief. He allowed one hit and one run, unearned, that came around to score on a dropped third strike.
The Longhorns plated their lone run in the ninth inning when, after Andrés Sosa reached on a walk and Bret Boswell singled him to third, Tyler Rand added a base hit to center to make it 8-1.
Henley (3-4) took the loss for Texas while Ragin' Cajuns right-hander Evan Guillory (3-2) got the win.
The Longhorns head to Stillwater this weekend for a three-game Big 12 Conference series at Oklahoma State beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
