Baseball holds on for 5-4 win over Oklahoma State in game one

The Longhorns got seven strong innings out of Nolan Kingham in game one of the doubleheader.
STILLWATER, Okla.—Despite a threatening ninth inning for Oklahoma State, Texas Baseball closed out a 5-4 win over the Cowboys in game one of Friday night's doubleheader at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Texas (29-16, 8-8 Big 12) fell behind early in the ballgame when Cade Cabbiness hit a two-run homer in the second frame off of Longhorns starter Nolan Kingham.
The Longhorns quickly chipped away at the deficit as senior outfielder Zane Gurwitz took the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to pull Texas to within one. The following inning, Bret Boswell's bases loaded groundout plated the tying run and the teams remained knotted at 2-2 until the eighth.
In the top of the eighth, freshman Austin Todd pinch-hit and led off the inning with a double to give the Longhorns a runner in scoring position. A Kody Clemens fly ball moved Todd to third before Kacy Clemens notched a two-out single to score Todd and put the Longhorns on top 3-2. Ryan Reynolds, Boswell and Michael McCann then added three consecutive two-out base hits and the Longhorns led 5-2 after eight complete.
In relief of Kingham, who went seven innings and allowed just two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out six, sophomore Beau Ridgeway struck out the side in the eighth rbut ran into trouble in the ninth.
The right-hander allowed a pair of Cowboys (23-17, 6-10 Big 12) to score to make it 5-4 but he held on for his 10th save of the season, becoming the first Longhorns pitcher with double-digit saves since Corey Knebel notched 19 in 2011.
The Longhorns and Cowboys resume the series with game two of the doubleheader scheduled for 6:35 p.m. tonight.
