The Longhorns and Horned Frogs will face off in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
FORT WORTH, Texas—One day after its 17-hit performance, Texas Baseball was held to just three hits in an 8-2 defeat at the hands of No. 9 TCU on Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
TCU (34-11, 14-6) got out to an early 1-0 lead in the second off of Nolan Kingham thanks to Evan Skoug's third long ball of the series but it was the third inning that separated the game.
The Horned Frogs put up a seven-spot off Kingham (7-4) and freshman Blair Henley in the inning to go out ahead 8-0 after three and put the game out of reach for the Longhorns (31-18, 9-10).
The Texas offense mustered just one hit off TCU starter Brian Howard (7-3) before finally getting on the board in the ninth inning. Travis Jones opened the final frame with a double before Kacy Clemens singled—his second hit of the game—to plate him and keep Texas from its first shutout of the season. The Longhorns added one more in the inning thanks to an error by the TCU third baseman, but Texas could not complete the comeback, falling by an 8-2 final.
The teams return to Lupton Stadium on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest. Right-hander Kyle Johnston will take the hill for the Longhorns.
