Bullpen dominates for No. 24 Baseball in 6-5 win over Louisiana

The Longhorns clinched the series and will go for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
LAFAYETTE, La. – The No. 24 Texas bullpen was brilliant, allowing just one run in seven innings, for a 6-5 win to clinch the series over Louisiana on Saturday at M.L. 'Tigue' Moore Field at Russo Park.
In addition to the bullpen, a trio of freshmen hitters had a big day to help secure the win. Lance Ford, Eric Kennedy and Bryce Reagan each had one RBI and one run scored. Ford and Reagan each had a pair of hits.
Cole Quintanilla made his Texas debut, coming out of the bullpen to start the third inning. He settled the game down and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Quintanilla picked up his first career win.
Nico O'Donnell pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and struck out four batters to earn the save.
The Longhorns exploded for five runs on five-consecutive hits, including three doubles, in the top of the second inning. All of the damage was done with two outs after Michael McCann walked to get the rally started.
The freshmen went to work from there. Ford lined an RBI double for his first career hit to start the scoring. Reagan followed with an RBI single to center and came all the way around to score after the ball was booted by the center fielder.
Duke Ellis kept the inning alive with a single before Kennedy and Austin Todd hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 5-0.
The Ragin' Cajuns had a quick response though, scoring four runs in the next half inning to trim the Texas lead to 5-4.
Ryan Reynolds added a run to the Texas lead with a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning.
Louisiana put two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh before O'Donnell came out of the bullpen to get out of the jam.
