LAFAYETTE, La. – The No. 24 Texas baseball team fought back valiantly but came up just short, 8-6, in the series finale to Louisiana on Sunday at M.L. 'Tigue' Moore Field at Russo Park. The Longhorns trailed 8-1 before rallying to get back in the game.

Freshman Eric Kennedy had another big day at the plate, hitting a pinch-hit three-run homer in the sixth inning that trimmed the Louisiana lead to 8-5.

Matteo Bocchi was solid in relief, making his season debut and pitching three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. He entered the game in the sixth inning and finished the game.

Louisiana started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. A groundball double play helped limit the damage to just one run in the inning.

Texas came right back and tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second after Ryan Reynolds hit a one out double and scored on an errant throw.

The Ragin' Cajuns retook the lead on an unearned run in the second inning. Louisiana used a squeeze bunt to drive in the go-ahead run after an error put runners on first and third.

The Cajuns plated two more runs in the fourth inning and ended starting pitcher Coy Cobb's day on the mound. Brandon Ivey came out of the bullpen to get out of the jam.

Louisiana blew the game open with a four-run fifth inning to extend the lead to 8-1.

Texas roared back in the sixth, scoring four runs to trim the lead to 8-5. Kennedy's three-run homer provided the big blow.

The Longhorns made things interesting in the top of the ninth, scoring one run and loading the baes.
