No. 9 Baseball blasts UIW, 10-1

The Longhorns hit a pair of homers and cruised to a big win over the UIW Cardinals.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Texas Baseball rolled to a 10-1 win over UIW on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns (15-6, 2-1) used home runs from Dylan Campbell and Peter Geib to put the game out of reach.
Cole Quintanilla pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season. Pete Hansen started and pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts.
Texas scratched out two runs in the bottom of the first after Douglas Hodo III and Eric Kennedy started the game with back-to-back bunt singles. A wild pitch put both runners into scoring position and Cam Williams and Ivan Melendez followed with sacrifice flies.
The Longhorns got two more across in the second inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Tanner Witt singled and Mitchell Daly followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Campbell followed with an RBI single to right field and Hodo drove in the fourth run with a sacrifice fly to center.
Campbell finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored, making his first career start in left field. Witt was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, making his second start as the designated hitter.
Texas tacked on an unearned run in the fourth before Campbell launched his two-run homer in the sixth inning to extend the Longhorns' lead to 7-0 over. The homer was the first of his career.
UIW got a run on the board in the seventh inning off of reliever Palmer Wenzel. Lucas Gordon followed that up by pitching a scoreless eighth with a strikeout. Coy Cobb finished off the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
Geib entered the game as a pinch hitter in the eight and proceeded to launch the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a three-run homer to make the score 10-1
Texas will host Oklahoma for a three-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field starting on Friday at 7 p.m.
