No. 3 Baseball cruises to 18-0 win over Abilene Christian

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Baseball beat Abilene Christian, 18-0, on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns have won 11 consecutive games and improve to 28-8 on the season, including a 20-2 mark at home.
Ty Madden (5-1) was dominant, pitching five shutout innings and striking out eight, while allowing three hits and three walks to earn the win. Douglas Hodo III and Murphy Stehly each had two hits and three RBI to lead the offense.
Texas was rolling early, plating five runs in the first inning on three hits and three walks. Mike Antico led off the inning with a walk, quickly stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. Two batters later, Zach Zubia smacked the first pitch he saw into left-center to bring home Antico. After a walk to Ivan Melendez, a wild pitch allowed Zubia and Melendez to move up a base. Hodo singled through the left side to bring in both runners. Eric Kennedy followed with a walk to put runners and first and second for Cam Williams, who drilled a double to right to bring Hodo and Kennedy home for a 5-0 Texas lead.
Texas added another in the second inning, with Antico starting the inning off with a base hit through the right side and then stealing second to move into scoring position. Mitchell Daly drove him home with a single through the left side to increase the Texas lead, 6-0.
In the third inning, Silas Ardoin walked to open the frame and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kennedy beat out an infield single that moved Ardoin to third and then Kennedy stole second. Williams was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Faltine, who walked to bring in a run and make it 7-0. Antico followed with a sacrifice fly in foul territory in short left that scored Kennedy. Daly then stepped in and slapped a single through the right side, scoring Williams and advancing Faltine to third, with Daly moving to second on an errant throw by the right fielder. After a Zubia walk, Melendez singled to right field to bring home Faltine and Daly, giving Texas an 11-0 lead.
Hodo made it 12-0 in the fourth, leading off the inning with a solo shot to left, his second-straight game with a home run.
Texas tacked on another run in the fifth inning, after Antico led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a ground out to second base. Zubia then singled to left-center to bring in Antico and make it 13-0.
Another run came across for Texas in the sixth to make it 14-0. Dalton Porter and Kennedy drew back-to-back walks to open the inning, then Faltine smoked a one-out double to left-center that scored Porter.
Murphy Stehly doubled in two more runs in the seventh to make it 16-0. Porter drew a one-out walk and Kennedy followed with an infield single, with Porter taking third. Stehly drove the next pitch into the gap in right-center to clear the bases.
The Longhorns added two more runs in the eighth, to close out the scoring at 18-0. Peter Geib started the inning off with a walk and moved to second on Peyton Powell's single through the left side. Caston Peter walked to load the bases, then Porter singled back to the pitcher to score a run. Stehly followed two batters later with a single that brought in Powell.
The Longhorns scored in each inning, with every starter scoring at least one run before the end of the third inning.
Coy Cobb, Jared Southard and Caden Noah each pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while Drew Shifflet threw a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game.
The Longhorns and Wildcats will resume the series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
